Hi is it possible to generate the SKU from a custom field?

I import my sales items from a 3rd party site. It uses the “sales ID” for the product ID rather than the “release ID”.

I sell records (music). Sales ID is unique to a particular unit, and Release ID is unique to a particular title so if I sell 10 copies of Pink Floyd – The Wall I end up with 10 different SKU’s when it should just be 1. If I could use the Release ID as an SKU this would be fixed.
